Four seasons

Many parts of the world have four seasons in a year. They are spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The weather is different during each season. As the weather changes, plants change too, and animals change their behaviour to suit the weather. In spring, the weather begins to get warmer and trees and other plants grow new leaves. Summer is the hottest season and has long usually sunny, days. In autumn, the weather becomes mild and leaves start falling from many types of trees. Winter is the coldest season, with short days. Many trees are bare and some animals enter a deep sleep called hibernation. They do this to save energy until spring, when it will be easier to find food.
Spring is the season when the landscape comes to life after a cold winter. There is stronger sunlight, temperatures begin to rise, and the days grow longer. The weather can change a lot in spring. It can be sunny and dry one minute, and wet and showery the next. Blossom appears on some trees and many low-growing plants burst into flower. Animals that have been hidden away in a deep sleep called hibernation wake up and come out from their dens. Many birds and animals return from their winter homes and start to breed. In the northern hemisphere, Earth's upper half, spring begins in September.
Summer is the hottest season of the year. The temperature can stay warm, even after the Sun has gone down at night. There are plenty of leaves on the trees and lots of plants are in flower. Many trees and other plants produce fruit during summer. People spend time outside, enjoying the long sunny days. In the northern hemisphere Earth's upper half, it is summer from June to September. In the southern hemisphere s lower half, it is summer from December to March.
Autumn is a season during which the days get shorter and temperatures start to drop. In some places, rainfall increases. In areas with icy winters, some trees, prepare to lose their leaves. These trees are called deciduous trees. Many plants make seeds that will become new plants in spring. Some animals grow thicker fur to get ready for the cold winter. Others gain weight to prepare for a deep sleep called hibernation to take them through winter. In the northern hemisphere, Earth's upper half, au takes place from September to December and in the southern hemisphere Earth's lower half, it is from March to June
Winter is the coldest season or the year. Days are short and nights are long. Some animals enter a deep sleep called on to help them save energy and survive winter. Other animals migrate, or move, to warmer regions. People need to heat their homes and wear thicker clothes to keep warm. The freezing winds often bring snow and ice. Winter lasts from December to March in the northern hemisphere, Earth's upper half, and from June to September in the southern hemisphere, Earth's lower half.
